Characters - This was a bit of a mixed bag. Most of the actors were very good. A few of them were terrible. The characters were all well-written though.
Plot - This story is solid and entertaining. Both the comedic and dramatic bits work for the most part. This movie is great.
Sights and Sounds - The cinematography is awesome. The sound mixing leaves a lot to be desired.
Overall this movie is pretty entertaining. Not the greatest, but its ok.

The Help, set and shot in Mississippi, is a story told with heart, humor and humanity, the combination of which makes this a very touching and immeasurably enjoyable movie. This movie may be about the injustices faced by the African American community at that time, but it is first and foremost a movie about awakenings. It starts off with Stones character returning from collage after 4 years which, as it turns out, is just long enough for her to look at her hometown's social structure with fresh eyes.
Containing a collection of fantastic female characters and equally, if not more, fantastic performances, this movie reflects very vividly, the racial imbalance of 1963 and helps the American people understand just how far their country has come and how little they have progressed in the last 50 years when it come to dealing with 'the color problem.
One of the things that I loved most about this movie is its attention to detail. Everything from the wardrobe and the cars to the hair and make-up do a wonderful job at taking its viewers on a journey back in time to when this story was set.
Although it is supposed to be a light movie that uses comedy to address a very serious topic, I found it slightly reminiscent of a stereotypical comedy trope which made the movie a tad bit distasteful. If you came across this movie looking for real, in depth stories regarding racism then I suggest you find a good documentary on the topic. However, if you are in search of an intelligent and witty movie that sends a beautiful message then The Help is the perfect pick for you.
